Zi Wei Dou Shu does not forecast the future. It lays out the temporal structure of the moment you were born — enough to see how you make decisions, and which questions you keep circling. Far from home, that kind of self-knowledge is worth more than another verdict about your fate.
Everything here is drawn from classical sources and offered as a lens for self-understanding, not as prediction.
The same chart can be read to say completely different things. What separates a good reading from a bad one is not intuition — it is whether there is a stable framework underneath.
Birth date and hour yield the twelve palaces and the distribution of stars. This step is pure calculation. There is no room for interpretation, and it comes out the same for everyone.
The Life Palace speaks to temperament, the Career Palace to working rhythm, the Wealth Palace to how you treat resources. It says how you tend to be, never what will happen to you.
Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji pull attention to the heaviest points on the chart. Ji is not an omen of disaster. It marks where psychological load tends to concentrate.
At home your reference points are handed to you: family position, school networks, industry convention, the social clock. Abroad, they all stop working at once.
| Situation | State of your references | The question you have to answer yourself |
|---|---|---|
| At home | External references intact, most choices have a known path | Do I follow the path laid out |
| Just landed abroad | References broken, old experience fails at scale | Who am I, and by whose standard is a life going well |
| Settled for years | New references built, still colliding with the old ones | When the two standards conflict, which do I trust |
| Second or third generation | Language and culture gaps, family expectations misaligned with society | Which expectations are my family's, and which are mine |
Skip any one of them and the conclusion distorts. This is why so many readings feel accurate but fall apart under a second question.
One double-hour of error can shift the Life Palace by one to one and a half palaces, rotating the whole chart with it. Births abroad also need local timezone and daylight saving handled — get this wrong and you are reading someone else's chart.
The Life Palace sets the tone; the three directions and four positions (Life, Wealth, Career, Travel) decide where the structure applies its force. Reading a single palace always fails, because palaces restrain each other rather than sitting side by side.
The four transformations mark the heaviest palaces; the Major Decade says which set of structures is currently in play. The same chart reads differently at twenty and at forty.
Zi Wei Dou Shu is a door, not a destination. The same stem-branch and palace logic supports more specific judgments.
Lay the static structure onto a timeline to see where a given decade or year carries its weight. For pacing your plans, not for waiting on events.
Two charts placed side by side to see where friction originates. The question is why two people rub, not whether they match.
A separate system built on the day stem and the distribution of elements. A different angle from Zi Wei Dou Shu — comparable, never convertible.
The largest error in overseas chart casting comes from input, not from lineage. These two essays take time conversion and daylight saving far enough to act on.
For a birth outside China, you cannot simply enter Beijing time. This piece gives the four-step conversion from birth certificate to true solar time, the two corrections for longitude and the equation of time, the traps in historical timezone changes, and what to do when the hour falls on a boundary.
A birth certificate time usually already includes daylight saving. Skip the conversion back and the hour shifts by one, moving the Life Palace and all twelve palaces. This piece lists start and end dates by country, three edge cases (skipped hour, repeated hour, southern hemisphere reversal), and China's own daylight saving from 1986 to 1991.
The six-language chart interface is in final checks and opens on 19 October. Until then, read the method for fixing the chart — getting the birth time right decides everything that follows.
